On Saturday, singer and poet Gil Scott-Heron was inducted into the Rock and Hall of Fame. Many of Gil Scott-Heron’s songs addressed racial and political tensions, with an eye on justice and equality. Malik Al Nasir is a poet, filmmaker and musician from Liverpool, England. He’s also the author of the new book, “Letters to Gil: A Luminous Memoir of Racism, Life in the Care System and the Power of Discovering Music under the Mentorship of Gil Scott-Heron.”
