More than two years after a fire severely damaged the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, France’s National Heritage and Architecture Commission has approved a controversial plan to restore its interior. More than 100 figures from the French cultural world have weighed in with their dismay over the design, which includes adding some contemporary artworks and mood lighting. Marco Werman speaks to Didier Rykner, an art historian, journalist and founder of La Tribune de l’Art, who is one of the signatories to the letter.
