Concern over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is close to home for neighboring Moldova, a small, non-NATO country on Ukraine’s eastern border. Last week Moldova condemned Russia’s invasion, declared a state of emergency and closed its airspace. Like Ukraine, it too has a breakaway region, Transnistria, controlled by a Russian-backed separatist regime supported by as many as 1,500 Russian troops stationed within its borders. While the country might be one of the poorest in Europe, it also opened its border to Ukrainians fleeing war. Host Carol Hills spoke with Moldova’s Ambassador to the US, Eugen Cara.
