Mauritania joins Tunisia, Turkey, Libya and Morocco, a group of proxy nations tasked with stopping the massive flow of people north. Mauritania’s help is crucial, as it lies along the busy human-smuggling route into Europe: from West Africa to Spain’s Canary Islands.
