EU says some gas and nuclear projects can be labeled climate-friendly

There was a time when environmentalists fought tooth and nail against nuclear power. That might be changing in Europe, where EU lawmakers voted to label some nuclear — and natural gas — projects as “green.” That will make it easier for investors to get low-interest loans and state subsidies to expand nuclear energy and gas projects. The new rules have been hotly debated for more than a year. The World’s Marco Werman is joined by Luis Garicano, a Spanish member of the European Parliament who’s in favor of the new rules.
