Energy has been one of the most fraught topics of 2021. As climate leaders called for a transition away from fossil fuels, energy shortages in Asia and Europe caused people to panic and prices to soar. The world has more wind and solar power than ever before, and renewables trends are expected to continue. Jason Bordoff, co-founding dean of the Columbia Climate School, was also the director for energy and climate change on the National Security Council under the Obama administration. In conversation with The World’s host Marco Werman, Bordoff says a switch to renewables doesn’t mean the end of messy geopolitics, it’s just a new chapter.
