Dozens dead following shipwreck off southern Italy coast

The World

The bodies of dozens of people washed ashore on Italy’s southern coast Monday morning, after a vessel carrying migrants and refugees coming from Turkey sank in rough seas. The boat is believed to have carried at least 200 people from countries including Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan and Somalia. The World’s host Marco Werman spoke to Andrew Geddes, director of the Migration Policy Center, based in Florence, Italy. Geddes says Italy’s new right-wing government has been taking a harder line on attempts by aid groups to rescue migrants at sea.
