Downstream drought stems from controversial Euphrates dams

Iraq is facing a severe drought this summer, and it appears that upstream dams in Iran and Turkey are the culprits. Turkey has continued to build controversial dams on the Tigris and Euphrates, arguing that it needs to protect its own access to water. There are protocols in place as to how much water Turkey releases from the dams, but they’re accused of not abiding by them.
