Deforestation comes with peace in Colombia

Five years ago, Colombia’s government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) signed a peace agreement. Since then, deforestation has been on the rise as cattle ranchers, loggers, miners, subsistence farmers and criminal groups move into areas formerly controlled by them, burning down forests to make way for legal and illegal businesses. The World’s Marco Werman spoke with Bram Ebus, a researcher with the International Crisis Group, about deforestation and what the Colombian government is trying to do about it.
