There are roughly 5 million penguins in Antarctica.  We say “roughly” because penguin colonies are difficult to count — penguins don’t hang out in the most easy-to-reach places. The BBC’s Martha Kearney reports from the Antarctic peninsula on the effort to get a handle on how many penguins are actually there.
