Company gets slapped with the first-ever fine for littering space

As more private entities and governments launch into space, disposing of orbital debris has becoming a bigger problem. Left in the atmosphere, even small bits can damage satellites and spacecraft. The Federal Communications Commission fined the Dish Network $150,000 for leaving an old satellite where it could potentially collide with others. Carolin Frueh, an associate professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Purdue University, discusses the problem of space junk with The World’s Marco Werman.
