Colombia debuts first all-female orchestra

European classical music has always been a bastion for male musicians, and the gender disparities in the genre have continued as orchestras developed around the world. During the pandemic, when performances stopped, an orchestra in Bogotá, Colombia, developed a strategy to encourage women to succeed and rise to leadership positions in classical music. Manuel Rueda reports on the country’s first all-female orchestra.
