China’s five-year plan on climate change

China released its five-year plan, a road map for economic development and government policies for the next five years, on Friday. Climate change experts are watching it closely for key targets on renewable energy and fossil fuels to gauge just how seriously the country is taking a surprise goal announced by Chinese president Xi Jinping in September to peak carbon emissions by 2030, and hit net zero by 2060.
