Chemical pollution problem passes global threshold, scientists say

The World

The rate of global chemical pollution exceeds the planet’s ability to absorb it, threatening the stability of global ecosystems and human health. Plastic pollution, as well as hundreds of thousands of other synthetic chemicals like pesticides, industrial materials and antibiotics, top the list of concerns based on a global study out this month in the journal Environmental Science & Technology. Ecotoxicologist Bethanie Carney Almroth, at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, discusses the research with The World’s Marco Werman.
