Challenges and hope in Haiti

The World

The situation in Haiti over the past four years has been full of twists and turns. Haitian President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated in 2021, leading to the country’s social and political fabric being picked apart by gangs. Their rise is remarkable, their influence is undeniable. In the coming month, it’s possible that Kenyan troops will be deployed to the island — sent there by Kenya’s president, William Ruto, to try and bring order. To understand the broader story and learn more about how this all happened, The World’s Carol Hills speaks to Harold Isaac, an independent journalist in Haiti based in Pétion-Ville.
