British woman and child repatriated from Syrian camp

The World

A British woman and her child, who have been living in a Syrian camp, have been repatriated to the UK. It is believed that they are among the thousands of foreign women and children detained in such camps run by the former Kurdish Syrian Democratic Forces, left in limbo after the fall of the Islamic State’s so-called “caliphate.” Human rights group Reprieve welcomed the repatriation, saying the woman is a victim of trafficking, taken to Syria when she was a young girl. To discuss the context of this case, The World’s host Marco Werman speaks to Gina Vale, a criminologist at the University of Southampton in the UK.
