Brazil election puts fate of public education in spotlight

President Jair Bolsonaro and challenger Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva have extremely different views on public education in Brazil. When Lula was president, he dramatically increased the country’s higher education system and greatly expanded access to people of color. As Michael Fox reports from northeast Brazil, a relatively poor part of the country, voters heavily favor Lula and believe the fate of education could lie in his hands.
