Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro is trying to push through a raft of bills that opponents have dubbed a “death combo” for the environment. One of them would allow mining on Indigenous territory. The war in Ukraine has threatened a crucial supply of fertilizer from Russia and Bolsonaro wants mining expanded to create a domestic source of fertilizer. Marco Werman speaks with Adriana Ramos, coordinator of Brazil’s Socio-Environmental Institute, an influential nongovernmental organization in Brazil.
