The US Commerce Department has put 28 Chinese government and private sector companies on a so-called “Entity List” over their role in the crackdown and treatment of Uighur Muslims in Western China. The list includes Chinese companies which manufacture surveillance equipment, as well as local government security bureaus. Marco Werman talks with Sophie Richardson, China director at Human Rights Watch, about the significance and timing of this move by the Trump Administration.
