As South African rescue teams search for flood victims, country’s most vulnerable left on their own

The World

Rescue teams in South Africa are still searching for dozens of missing people after historic floods struck KwaZulu-Natal last week. The official death toll climbed to 443 on Tuesday after last week’s heavy rains destroyed homes, bridges and roads. Poor and working-class neighborhoods were hit the hardest. Host Marco Werman spoke with Busisiwe Diko, an organizer with a group in Durban called the “Shack Dwellers’ Movement.” She said that official help hadn’t arrived yet in these communities.
