Aboriginal ‘cultural burning’

As Australia reels from one of the worst fire seasons ever, and looks forward to a climate change future in which devastating fire conditions are the norm, many in the country are looking to solutions that reduce the risk of mega-fires in the Australian bush. Aboriginal “cultural burning” — traditional fire management that reduces the undergrowth that can fuel bigger fires — has attracted new attention from both within Aboriginal communities and mainstream fire services as a way to reduce fire risk.
