The Spanish village of Ripoll, near the French border, is making getting residency as hard as possible, in a bid to dissuade foreigners from settling there. It’s the work of new, far-right mayor, Silvia Orriols. It’s no accident she’s in power. Ripoll was where several Moroccan teenagers were radicalized, leading to a terrorist attack in Barcelona and elsewhere in 2017 that left 13 dead and more than a hundred injured. The town has never entirely healed, and mistrust of foreigners remains high. The World’s Gerry Hadden reports from the village.
