A Pakistani family faces climate damages

Abdul Ghani and his extended family fled to the roof of a school in their town in rural Sindh province, Pakistan, when catastrophic flooding reached their home in August. The floods destroyed their home, put Ghani out of work, brought illness to their family and meant months of missed school for the children. As environmental leaders at COP27 negotiate whether richer countries will pay for climate damages in poorer ones, The World’s Environment correspondent Carolyn Beeler spent time with the family to learn about their first-hand experiences with climate damages.
