The US and the Taliban are reportedly inching closer to a breakthrough in peace talks. US Special Envoy Zalmay Khalilzad wrapped up the latest round of talks with the group in Doha on Monday, tweeting that the two sides “have made excellent progress.” But one side that has been notably missing from these negotiations? The Afghan government. This week, The World’s Shirin Jaafari sat down with Afghanistan’s first female ambassador to the US, Roya Rahmani, to ask about the Afghan government’s position regarding the peace talks.
