Nigeria seeks to compel its doctors to stay

Nigeria has only about one doctor for every 5,000 residents. In the US, for example, the ratio is closer to 1 in 300. Many Nigerian doctors leave their country as soon as they are trained and take more lucrative jobs in the UK or the US. Members of Nigeria’s National Assembly are now backing a new bill that would require graduates to stay and work in the country for five years in order to limit the brain drain on medical professionals. Host Marco Werman speaks with Dr. Emeka Orji, president of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, whose organization is strongly opposed to the bill.
