Cambodian American graduates: More than victims of genocide

During its short rule of the country, the Khmer Rouge wiped out much of Cambodia’s educated class. The memories of genocide followed those who eventually immigrated to the United States. Nearly a half-century after being targeted for their education, Cambodian Americans in Long Beach, California, hope that they can be seen not just as victims but in their full scope as human beings.
