Fighting in Sudan threatens world supply of gum arabic

Gum arabic is a key ingredient in lots of foodstuffs and cosmetics, but especially soda. Most of the world’s supply comes from Sudan, but since the beginning of the conflict, the industry has been freezing up. The World’s Carolyn Beeler interview Mohamed Salih, a gum arabic exporter, importer, and broker, about what exactly the conflict is doing to the industry and the consequences for the rest of the world.
