The roots of modern wheat are from Ukraine

The wheat grown today in the US can be traced back to Turkey Red, which Mennonites brought over from present-day Ukraine in the late 1800s. The tough wheat berry wasn't a popular strain when it was first introduced. It was hard for millers to process. The World's Bianca Hillier reports that its flavor won over critics.
