World Cup opens with fanfare and controversy

The FIFA World Cup is under way in Qatar. The tournament saw much controversy in the years, months, weeks and days ahead of the start of the tournament. But even as the matches are underway in Qatar, the controversy continues — from comments made by FIFA’s president to Ecuadorian fans demanding beer and Iranians refusing to sing their country’s national anthem in solidarity with protests back home.
