Garlic is Cuba’s white gold

“Don’t buy gold, buy garlic.” That’s the adage in Cuba for those who want to make money. There’s a shortage of the bulbs, which are essential to Cuban cooking. The Economist’s Roseann Lake reports that with the annual harvest, cooks and speculators are buying up as much as they can.
