ExxonMobile announces ‘net-zero’ target for operations

ExxonMobil announced a plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions from its operations to “net zero” by midcentury. But that target does not include its main source of emissions: those released when customers burn their oil or gas. It’s seen as incremental progress, but a sign that investors, who’ve long pushed Exxon to start reducing its carbon footprint, are changing the company’s strategy. The World’s environment correspondent Carolyn Beeler reports on what this new target signals from the oil and gas giant.
