Black women face higher risks of miscarriage

A new study in The Lancet finds that Black women face a 43% higher risk of miscarriage than other women. Those who experience pregnancy loss are more likely to suffer other long-term health problems, including depression. London resident Nana-Adwoa Mbeutcha, a founding member of the “Black Mums Upfront” podcast, tells host Marco Werman about her own experience with pregnancy loss. Marco also speaks with Dr. Cindy Maxwell, a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Sinai Health in Toronto, Canada, about how and why maternal health care systems fail Black women.
