• Rod Rosenstein went before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday as the president’s nominee for deputy attorney general. Because Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recused himself from the investigation into Russian meddling in the election, Rosenstein will oversee that investigation. • Lisa Dickey, author of “Bears in the Streets: Three Journeys Across a Changing Russia,” has traveled through Russia three times since the fall of the Soviet Union. She discusses how the attitudes have changed between 1995 and 2017. 

• In 1945, in a now-famous piece of World War II archival footage, four-year-old Michael Bornstein was filmed by Soviet soldiers as he was carried out of Auschwitz in his grandmother’s arms. Michael Bornstein and his daughter Debbie Bornstein Holinstat tell this story in the new book, “Survivors Club: The True Story of a Very Young Prisoner of Auschwitz.”
