One hundred years ago, President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill into law that created the National Parks Service. Its mission: “To conserve the scenery and the natural and historic objects and wildlife therein” and to “leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations.”
American parks—from well known sites like Yosemite National Park in California to less well known parks like the Dry Tortugas National Park near Key West Florida—offer natural beauty and historical wonder far removed from city life.
The IMAX 3D documentary film “National Parks Adventure” takes viewers on a virtual tour of 30 national parks by telling the story of Conrad Anker, a mountaineer who takes a national parks road trip followed by the film’s director, Greg MacGillivray.
The film documents the history and eternal beauty of America’s National Parks in just 40 minutes—a length that seems perfect for the Twitter age. For MacGillivray, the duration of the film was a challenge, but it was also an opportunity to tell a story.
