Famous battle
August 19, 2008 | permalink | |

Today's Geo Quiz is all about history. A history that's relevant today given the ongoing hostilities between Russia and Georgia.

We're looking for the site of a famous battle. Some say it was the most significant battle in modern European history. The fight took place 299 years ago.

Swedish forces battled the troops of Russian Tsar Peter the Great. The Russians won and the map of Europe was redrawn.

Peter wanted access to the sea to build his great city -- what would become St. Petersburg.

But the battle didn't take place in Russia or Sweden.

“The main battle for the huge possession situated on the coastal Baltic Sea, took place here, near small city of BLEEP situated about 2,000 miles far from Baltic Sea.”

So can you fill in the bleep and name the city where the battle was fought?

We'll give you half credit if you can name the country.
