For today's Geo Quiz we were looking for a Colorado town about 170 miles west of Denver. The answer is Carbondale. The town is home to a growing number of Latino immigrants. They've found a haven at a local business called Garcia's Café. Reporter Sarah Hughes dropped by Garcia's Café on a recent afternoon, and sent us this report.

Arizona puts a new immigration law into effect tomorrow. It will impose sanctions on employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants. Rene Gutel of station KJZZ in Phoenix has the story.

While hundreds of thousands flee the fires in southern California, some Mexican migrants are refusing to go. They say they'd rather risk their safety than risk deportation. Anchor Lisa Mullins speaks with Enrique Morones, director of Border Angels, a non-profit group that aids migrants on both sides of the border.

A 23-year-old illegal immigrant died recently while in federal custody. It happened at a US detention facility in Los Angeles. The detainee had AIDS and the case is raising questions about the quality of medical care available to immigrants in custody. Rob Schmitz of station KQED has the story.

Listen Border fence politics in Arizona (4:00)

Rene Gutel reports from Arizona on a new political ad airing around the country. It's called "Where's the Fence?" It's about border fence construction approved by Congress, but not yet completed. The main targets of the ad, though, are lawmakers, like Senator John McCain of Arizona, who support an immigration reform plan currently being debated on Capitol Hill.

Correspondent Rob Schmitz reports from Los Angeles on a new grassroots movement aimed at helping illegal immigrants caught up in federal raids. Organizers criticize the raids for separating parents from their children. They're offering sanctuary in churches around the country to immigrants facing deportation.

Federal immigration officials are on a nationwide search for immigrants who've been ordered to leave the US but are still in the country. It's called Operation Return to Sender. KPBS Border Reporter Amy Isackson accompanied officers on a raid in San Diego and sent this report.
